Cary Elwes has joined the cast of Stranger Things, just as we wished
The Dread Pirate Roberts is joining the cast of Stranger Things? Inconceivable!
Production on Stranger Things Season 3 kicked off this month and a pretty exciting name is joining the roster. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos just revealed during a See What’s Next event in Rome that Cary Elwes will be heading to Hawkins in a guest role. Did someone call Miracle Max, because this is a dream come true. (See what we did there?)
The Robin Hood: Men in Tights actor is set to play Mayor Kline, who appears to be the Prince Humperdinck of Hawkins.
According to TVLine, Mayor Kline is “your classic ’80s politician…more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs.” Given everything that’s happened in Hawkins thus far, we’d be surprised if the town leadership was anything but corrupt and ineffective.
Additionally Jake Busey — yes, the son of Gary Busey — will also appear in a guest spot during Season 3 of the hit Netflix series as Bruce, a seedy journalist from The Hawkins Post. Elwes and Busey’s casting is just the latest in updates from Hawkins. Last month, reports confirmed that Priah Ferguson, who stole the show as Lucas’ sister Erica, would be returning for Season 3 in a recurring capacity, meanwhile Maya Hawke — the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman — will be joining the cast as a new character named Robin.
Unfortunately, it appears the Rodents Of Unusual Size will not be trading in the Fire Swamp for the Upside Down — but that’s probably for the best because our favorite Hawkins residents already have their hands full with Demodogs, the Demogorgon, and the Mind Flayer.
While the Duffer brothers and executive producer Shawn Levy have remained pretty tight-lipped about Season 3 thus far, the season will take place during the summer of 1985. Sure, the Elwes-starred cult classic The Princess Bride didn’t hit theaters until 1987, but we can pretend.
While we’re hoping Netflix releases Season 3 of Stranger Things *very* soon, a wise miracle man once said, “You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.” Heeding that advice, we’ll be trying to wait patiently until the third season of Stranger Things drops in either late 2018 or early 2019.
