Buckle up, there’s a new trailer for “Cars 3” and it’s a doozy
Leave it to Disney and Pixar to keep us on our toes, because they’ve just released the first official teaser trailer for Cars 3, and we have so. many. questions.
The highly anticipated second sequel to the beloved Cars franchise won’t hit theaters until June 16, 2017, so we’ll have to settle for this brief 49-second clip for now, but it certainly seems as if the masters behind Lightning McQueen are shifting gears… metaphorically and literally.
McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson, is back (of course!) but in this Cars 3 teaser trailer, he’s crashing and burning, putting a dark spin (literally!) on the happy-go-lucky series. The trailer simply shows a pack of cars as they start their engines, and McQueen has a pretty uncharacteristic crash landing before it fades to black.
Then the ominous slogan appears, reading: “From this moment, everything will change.”
So mysterious. So grim. So un-Disney like. We have so many questions!
According to Variety, “the upcoming film will focus on McQueen enlisting his new friend Cruz Ramirez as a technician to compete against a new generation of racers.” Crowd favorites Mater, Sally, and Ramone will also reportedly return.
That doesn’t really give us too much to work with, so we’ll have to wait and see as Disney and Pixar unveil more details about the third film in the series… but we’re not sure how we feel about how ~dark~ it is so far.
