Carrie Underwood made her first public appearance after her facial injury, and fans were so supportive

She’s back! Carrie Underwood officially returned to the spotlight at the 2018 ACM Awards, making her first public appearance since breaking her wrist and getting 40 to 50 stitches in her face following a fall at her home last November.

Days ahead of the performance, Underwood updated fans about her health in a personal letter posted to her website, writing that she’s recovering really well: “First off, physically, I’m doing pretty darn good these days! My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90% there…and the docs say that last 10% will come in time. And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while.”

She also shared a handful of rehearsal pictures on social media, in which she looked happy and healthy and ready for a return. And when she made that return on Sunday, April 15th, the singer — who was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and took home the award for Vocal Event of the Year for “The Fighter,” along with Keith Urban — delivered an emotive performance of her new single, “Cry Pretty,” with beautiful, glitter tears streaming down her face, like in the artwork for the ballad.

Naturally, Carrie Underwood’s fans were beyond supportive.

They were so happy to see her back in action!

But there were some haters, too; some Twitter users said they didn’t notice anything different about Underwood’s face and criticized her for making a “big deal” about her facial injury. But the thing is, Underwood — who previously warned fans that she *might* look different after her accident — has kept a low profile in recent months, remaining out of the public eye. We don’t really know what she’s been through, so let’s not compare her experience to others or judge her for how she’s addressed her injuries, please and thank you.

We’re so glad to see that Carrie Underwood is feeling better, and we can’t wait to hear more of her new music!
