Carrie Fisher is going to appear in “Star Wars: Episode IX,” and our HEARTS
Last year, we lost a legend when Carrie Fisher suddenly passed away due to complications from a cardiac episode. She might be gone, but she will never be forgotten since her legacy will continue to live on in her wisdom and wit, and also a little movie called Star Wars.
Though Carrie had completed all her work on the upcoming Episode VIII, The Last Jedi, work hasn’t even begun on Episode IX yet. Lucasfilm was quick to rule out digitally recreating her for the movie (like they did in Rogue One), and they also made it clear that Leia’s role in the saga would not be rewritten or reworked to omit her. So…what’s going to happen with Leia?
Now, it sounds like Carrie will appear in Episode IX, no reworking or special effects needed. Thanks to some previously shot footage of Carrie, Leia will be brought to life once again.
According to Carrie’s brother, Todd Fisher, both he and Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, have agreed to let Lucasfilm and Disney use this footage for the upcoming movie.
“Both [Billie and I] were like, ‘Yes, how do you take [Carrie] out of [the movie?]’ And the answer is you don't, Todd explained to The New York Daily News. “She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.
Unfortunately, Todd doesn’t elaborate as to just how/what will happen with Carrie in the last part of the trilogy (then again, we don’t even know what’s going to happen with her in this upcoming movie). It’s believed that there are two pivotal Leia scenes out there, one where she’s reunited with Luke, another when she’s reunited with her son Ben Kylo Ren. Maybe it’s one of these scenes that gets moved to the last movie, or there’s some other footage out there.
However Leia’s scenes play out in the last two Star Wars movies, we’re just happy to know Leia will be there.
