Carrie Fisher’s memorial service sounded like the most perfect send off for a true princess
It’s been reported that on Thursday night (January 5th), friends and family of the late Carrie Fisher gathered for a memorial service at the actor’s house in Beverly Hills.
Fisher sadly passed away on December 27th following a heart attack a few days prior. She was 60 years old. Upsettingly, the star’s mother, Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds, died just one day later aged 84. It’s expected that a funeral will take place today (January 6th).
According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, a friend of the family revealed that Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, opted to host her mother’s memorial service at her home in Los Angeles, which previously belonged to Bette Davis and costume designer Edith Head. It’s reported that Fisher often entertained guests, and the service took place in the afternoon.
A friend of the family told EW that there were 125 guests in attendance, among them Carrie Fisher’s friends Meryl Streep, who also spoke at the service, Tracey Ullman, Stephen Fry, and Meg Ryan.
"Billie wanted the people her mother loved to gather in that living room one last time," they said. "The only things missing were Carrie and Debbie."
According to the friend, guests were fed on staples from Fisher’s many parties: fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread.
"All the tributes circled back to Billie and how much Carrie loved her," they said of those who spoke at the service.
It’s reported that Meryl Streep, who was a long-time friend of Carrie Fisher and who starred in the movie adaptation of the late-star’s book Postcards from the Edge, sang a rendition of Fisher’s favorite song, “Happy Days Are Here Again” during the memorial.
