There was a lightsaber vigil for Carrie Fisher, and we’ve got so many bittersweet feels

As the news of the legendary Carrie Fisher’s passing began to spread across the world the other day, millions took to social media to share their thoughts and memories of the beloved icon. Wanting to do more than just Tweet, some fans even set up a makeshift star for Carrie on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But still, that seems like not enough to honor her memory. What we need now are lightsabers.

Last night over at Downtown Disney at Disneyland, there was a vigil for Carrie, but it was unlike one we’ve ever seen before. Fans from all over gathered together to remember the actress (and author, and mental health advocate), best known for her role as Princess General Leia in the Star Wars movies. And you can’t mourn a Force sensitive Rebellion leader without holding your lightsaber high up into the sky, akin to a flickering candle, which is exactly what happened.

The event was first posted on Facebook, and quickly spread across the internet. Hundreds showed up at Downtown Disney, many of them dressed in their Star Wars best, all toting a colorful lightsaber.

That’s not the only lightsaber vigil, though. Half a dozen more popped up across the country (and will continue to do so over the next few days) where lightsabers and Star Wars costumes are highly encouraged.

Carrie would have laughed and loved every second of this. Though unconventional, it fits into just how much we loved Carrie, and how much Carrie loved her fans.
