Carrie Fisher is now officially a Disney Legend, and Billie Lourd’s reaction was so incredibly moving
Carrie Fisher, Star Wars actress and role model for women everywhere, just received an awesome award. Disney inducted Carrie Fisher into the Disney Legends hall of fame at the D23 convention. While we still miss her dearly, it brings us great joy to see her honored in this way. (FYI, D23 is a biennial 3-day fan convention, and 10 other artists also received the accolade.)
Carrie’s daughter shares our sentiments. Billie Lourd penned a touching letter to be read at the ceremony (which she was unable to attend).
The letter was both bittersweet and inspiring, and spoke to her mother’s lifelong love of the Disney franchise.
Disney CEO and event emcee, Bob Iger, read the heartwarming note aloud. In it, Billie recalls memories of visiting Disneyland as a young girl with her mom.
"We went to Disneyland so much that I now realize that she might have even loved it more than I did, Billie wrote. “So becoming a part of the Disney family was truly an amazing moment for her. She secretly always wanted to be a Disney princess, so getting to be a Disney princess and a Disney legend would have been her ultimate dream.
She also shared a photo on Instagram:
As big fans of Disney princesses, we’re so excited that she’s joined their ranks as well.
In addition, Carrie’s longtime Star Wars co-star, Mark Hamill, was also honored. Unsurprisingly, he had some nice things to say as well.
“I would love to give my deepest respects for the super cool space sis I have in Carrie Frances Fisher, the actor who plays Luke Skywalker said. “I loved her. And we were like siblings. The good and the bad! We’d have huge fights and not speak to one another. But we loved each other, and what a great thrill it was to come back in The Force Awakens at that time in our lives. There was a comfort level with each other. We could rely on each other. And there was a deep respect. I know if she was here this morning, she would have flipped me the bird at least twice already, so thank you all so much. I’m so humbled and so grateful, and I love you all. Thank you.
Undoubtedly, Princess Leia will continue to live on in the Disney Legends hall of fame.
