Carrie Fisher was working on a HBO documentary about her relationship with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, when she died
The deaths of hollywood royalty Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds within a day of each other has left hollywood reeling from the loss of the iconic mother/daughter duo. Debbie, who made a name for herself in 1952 hit musical film Singin in the Rain, and Carrie, an acclaimed actress and writer, best known for Star Wars, might be gone, but they will most certainly not be forgotten. We’re actually going to see their smiling faces again, and soon, because earlier this year, they completed a documentary about their lives in Hollywood for HBO called Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.
In the wake of their deaths, Sheila Nevins, president of HBO Documentary Films has opened up about the documentary, saying, “It’s a love story.”
Nevins revealed:
“Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie. They just loved each other so much. The bond was just unbreakable.
As the child of celebrity parents Debbie and Eddie Fisher, Carrie’s entire life has played out in the public eye. Carrie has been very candid about her struggles with addiction and her diagnosis as bipolar. Of how the documentary depicted the relationship between Carrie and Debbie, Nevins explained
“It’s life with Carrie and Debbie. It’s about both of them trying to stand upright, both having their frailties — age on the one hand and mental illness on the other. It’s a love story about a mother and daughter — they happen to be Carrie and Debbie.
Carrie, who worked with HBO for the filming of her one woman show, Wishful Drinking, had been planning on doing some work on the documentary last week, before deciding to head home to Los Angeles for the holidays.
While HBO has yet to set a release date on the documentary, we hope it’ll be released sometime soon. While we’re devastated by the losses of Carrie and Debbie, we’re so glad their memorable relationship was able to be captured on film.
