Carrie Fisher’s audition for “Star Wars” proves what a talent she was

We’re so heartbroken over the death of Carrie Fisher, and to pay tribute to the actor we’ve been watching her audition for Star Wars and her role of Princess General Leia from 1975.

Last week, it was revealed that Fisher had suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to L.A.. While news of her condition was said to be improving, yesterday (December 27th) a family spokesperson shared the tragic and upsetting news that the 60-year-old had passed away.

Tributes to Fisher quickly began to pour in from all around the internet and from many of her co-stars. Harrison Ford released a touching statement to his friend and co-star, as did Star Wars newcomer Daisy Ridley and star’s on-screen brother Mark Hamill.

Now a video is being shared around of Carrie Fisher’s audition for Star Wars and it proves that she was destined to be the greatest intergalactic princess ever.

The black and white clip sees a 19-year-old Fisher earnestly audition with a scene between herself and Harrison Ford’s character Han Solo after their escape from the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Tbh, this clip is making us tear up a bit. Not only does Carrie Fisher look really, really young, but it reminds us just how much of a talented actor she was, and how much she came to embody the role of Leia.

Earlier this year while promoting her latest book, The Princess Diarist, Fisher opened up to NPR’s Terry Goss about her experiences shooting that first Star Wars movie.

"I think I sort of felt isolated. You know, I didn't really have anyone. I didn't confide in men. Well, I didn't confide in anyone then," she said.

However, Fisher went on to inspire a generation of women, and as shooting for the subsequent Star Wars films progressed it seems that she became more involved. Indeed, following her sad death yesterday people began to share a picture from her script of The Empire Strikes Back, which is covered with amendments and notes. false

Ultimately, it’s amazing to see how from her first audition and isolation filming the first Star Wars movie, Carrie Fisher began to shape and completely command the role of Princess (and then General) Leia. Not only does it showcase what a talented actor she was, but also how she understood the power of that role and what it would mean to many people.

While we’re mourning Carrie Fisher, we’re also remembering what an incredible and talented person she was. We will all miss her dearly.
