Watch the iconic Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds interview with Oprah in 2011 — it’s worth it

It’s been a truly heartbreaking week, so we’re reminiscing on one of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ most iconic and hilarious interviews on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Carrie died of heart failure at age 60 earlier this week on December 27th and her mother, Debbie, died of a reported stroke less than 48 hours later.

In the nearly hour-long interview, the two actresses discussed their personal struggles openly and honestly with Oprah. It was one of the few times that the mother/daughter duo did an interview together, which makes it bittersweet to watch.

One of the funniest moments was when Carrie, who became best known for portraying Princess Leia in Star Wars, described to Oprah what it was like growing up with a mother who was one of the most popular actresses of the time.

“She’d go into this big closet she had. You’d go in on this end, and there’d be the shirts and shoes and maybe some slacks. You’d turn left, and there’s skirts and dresses. At the other end, probably nightgowns and robes. She’d go in on this end as my mom, and she’d come out the other end as Debbie Reynolds. It was like a car wash for celebrities,” Carrie joked during the Oprah interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzjgp2XebwE

Once Debbie joined the interview, they talked about the infamous Elizabeth Taylor scandal. When Carrie was barely a toddler, her father, Eddie Fisher, had a very public affair with Elizabeth.

It might have been a sore subject at one point, but during the interview, Debbie and Carrie were lighthearted and witty about it. Their bond is a fun one to watch.

We’ve definitely lost two Hollywood legends. May they both rest in peace.
