Carpool karaoke is getting its own show, but there’s one major change

Premiering last year on James Corden’s The Late Late Show, Carpool Karaoke has quickly become a late night staple. The series recently gave us rare and much-needed footage of First Lady Michelle Obama lip synching Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, and Missy Elliott in between conversations with Corden about the importance of educating women and using technology to spread political messages. And Corden’s video lip synching with Adele has nearly 120 million views, making it the most-viewed Youtube video from late night television.

So, it is certainly exciting that the segment is becoming its own series via Apple Music, while also remaining a segment on The Late Late Show. But, we are sad to say that Corden will not be the host of the new series. He will be involved with the new show, as he is executive producing it in partnership with Fulwell 73, the production company of The Late Late Show. Still, it will be difficult to find a host as charming and fitting for the role as he is. Somehow, Corden is able to joke around, chat, drive, and keep up vocally with his guests, all while appearing relaxed and carefree.

Hopefully, the new version and the new host will capture all the spontaneity, immediacy, and humor of the original version.

Said Ben Winston of the show, “We couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Apple Music on this exciting new series of Carpool Karaoke. The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music.”
