Did Shazam accidentally leak the title of Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album?

Queen of the internet and Run Away With Meme inspirer, Carly Rae Jepsen, might have just had her album title leaked.

The singer recently shared her latest cut, the ready-for-summer banger “Cut to the Feeling,” and it safe to say that, again, people on the internet lost all their chill. The release of the song follows Jeppo’s announcement that she had recorded 50 (!) tracks for her hotly anticipated third album. Not only that, but the singer joked that she was going to move to Italy and never release them. This, of course, prompted fans on social media to have a bit of a meltdown.

Well, it has now been reported that, thanks to music discovery system Shazam, Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album title might have been leaked.

According to a report by Stereogum, if you Shazam Jeppo’s newest song “Cut to the Feeling,” fans are directed to a page that attributes the track to a new album coming in 2017 titled Spread Love

It’s been all but been confirmed that CRJ is releasing a new album this year, so it wouldn’t come as too much of a shock that there could be an album coming sooner rather than later.

However, there are a few things that don’t quite add up. Firstly, “Cut to the Feeling” was recorded for Carly’s last album, Emotion, and was actually included in the soundtrack for the animated move Leap! The track was meant to appear on Jeppo’s EP Emotion Side B — a collection of off cuts from Emotion proper — but was left off in the end. So, it might be a *bit* of a stretch for assume that she’d also include it on an upcoming third album, too.

Also, Stereogum, who broke the news, also did a little digging themselves, and discovered that if you use another music recognition service, SoundHound, it misattributes the track as Goldroom’s “Spread Love.”

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album isn’t called Spread Love as the misattribution could have occurred because of the fact that Goldroom’s song and Jepsen’s album share the same name. However, given that it’s pretty unlikely that “Cut to the Feeling” will appear on #CRJ3, we’re not giving it too much credence.

Last year, in fact, Jeppo said that her upcoming third album had been inspired by disco and by Abba! Basically, it’s going to save music, us, and the rest of the world, and we’re ready.
