Cardi B and Offset welcomed their baby girl, and her name is everything
Baby Bardi is here: Cardi B gave birth to a daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, on July 10th, 2018 — the Grammy-nominated rapper’s first child with husband Offset (one-third of rap trio Migos). Cardi confirmed the news via Instagram on July 11th. This is Cardi’s first child and Offset’s fourth. (In June, the public learned that the engaged couple had actually been married since September 2017.)
As far as her baby’s creative name, we know that two previous Migos albums have been named Culture and Culture II, so the name could hark to both her dad’s music and her mom’s ascendence in the hip hop world. Plus, Baby Bardi officially shares her initials with her dad, whose full name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus.
Cardi fought off pregnancy rumors for months in an attempt to keep her personal life as private as possible, but finally confirmed the exciting news on Saturday Night Live on April 7th. During a performance of her single “Be Careful” — the day after her debut album Invasion of Privacy dropped — Cardi’s no-longer-hidden baby bump was on full display in a white gown.
After revealing her pregnancy, the record-breaking artist was subjected to intense (and sexist) social media criticism from people who questioned why she’d have a baby during the peak of her new career. But as Cardi B stated during an April 10th interview on The Breakfast Club, “Why do I gotta choose a career or a baby? Why can’t I have both? I want both.” Cardi’s decision to challenge these problematic ideas and joyfully celebrate her career and pregnancy was powerful to watch.
I started winning when the whole world was doubting on me !think imma lose with my little baby counting on me ?

From her pregnancy twerk during a Coachella performance to singing “Gotta gotta give birth birth birth. Birth birth birth. Birth birth birth,” in an Instagram video commemorating her place as the first female rapper with two number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, Cardi B has shown that pregnancy does not mean the end of a woman’s career or the end of her sexuality.
Congrats to the new parents! Now to wait for what will surely be an epic first photo shoot for baby Kulture.
