Cara Delevingne’s reason for revealing her depression is absolutely perfect and so important

We give endless credit and support to those who choose to share their private mental health struggles with the public, which is why we express continued appreciation toward celebs like Cara Delevingne for openly discussing depression. Not only does it contribute to educating others on mental health issues, it helps to fight stigmas and diminish some of the common misconceptions about depression. Previously, the Suicide Squad actress revealed that depression forced her to take a break from modeling and now she’s speaking out about why she chose to publicize her mental health battles.

In a cover story for the September issue of Elle magazine, Delevingne shares the inspirational reason why she let the public in on such a personal experience:

“I couldn’t just sit there and listen to these girls, and boys, too, but usually girls, say this stuff, about bullying, about their sexuality, depression, and guilt and suicidal thoughts and just all of it, without being like, ‘I have been through that, and it’s going to be okay,’” Delevingne told Elle. “If I can help a teenager go through a better time than they should be, then I am going to fucking do that.”

Thank you, Cara. Hopefully young fans who already look up to the actress and admire her accomplishments can find some solace in knowing that they’re not alone and most importantly, that’s it totally possible to survive their darkest times, even if their depression tells them otherwise.
