This ‘Game of Thrones’ actor called Cara Delevingne unprofessional, but she’s standing up for herself
If you’ve been keeping up with your Cara Delevingne news, you know that in late July Cara did an interview with Good Morning Sacramento the morning after the premiere of her breakthrough film Paper Towns that was, you know, kind of a disaster. The interviewers started out on the super wrong foot by getting her name wrong (Nope, not Carla). Then, Cara responded sarcastically to the (admittedly, not that respectful) question “Have you even read the books?” From there, the interviewers told her she seemed “exhausted” (Note: Don’t ever say this to anyone, it ALWAYS makes people mad) and then got pretty condescending, suggesting the actress needed a nap or a Red Bull.
It was pretty awkward as far as interviews go, and Cara made the best of it on Twitter by just assuming that “Some people don’t understand sarcasm or the British sense of humor.”
Welp, this story is in the headlines again after Richard Madden (AKA Robb Stark/live-action Cinderella‘s Prince Charming) told Style Magazine that he did not condone Cara’s behavior.
“It was unprofessional,” Madden said. “It made her seem ungrateful. She showed her age. For Cinderella, I did six weeks of those interviews, where you get asked the same eight questions.”
He got one last dig in, saying, “If you’re not capable of doing [an interview] gracefully, then don’t do it.”
Cara responded pretty hilariously by retweeting a meme of the sitch inspired by the Nicki Minaj/Miley Cyrus VMA beef:
Clearly, Madden felt badly about what he said (or badly about the backlash) because he tweeted a peace offering this morning.
Of course, we can’t help but wonder if this was less a case of misquoting and more a case of Madden regretting his words. Which is okay. We’ve all said things we realized later we didn’t really mean, and the nice thing about not being famous is you don’t have the media climbing all over themselves to quote you on your mistakes.
Cara (awesomely) wasted no time in standing up for herself.
True, Cara does not mince words in her response, but considering what was said about her, we think this response was pretty fair, and honestly, pretty universally applicable. We could all stand to do a little less public-shaming and a little more staying in our own lanes.
We hope that Madden really was misquoted, but, if he wasn’t, we hope this can be a teachable moment, for all of us really, about how this kind of commentary can really backfire.
