As if we couldn’t be any more excited, Captain Marvel will be scored by a female composer

As if we couldn’t be any more excited for Captain Marvel, the badass group of women behind the scenes just got a little bit bigger as it was revealed that Pinar Toprak will score the film, becoming the first woman to score a major comic book movie.

While it’s absolutely wild to begin with that in the year 2018, Toprak is the first woman to have this opportunity, the composer comes with some major superhero music cred. Toprak recently scored the first season of SyFy series Krypton, which follows Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El. She also provided additional music for Justice League and scored everyone’s new video game obsession, Fortnite.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Toprak took to Instagram to confirm the news and share her excitement about joining the MCU. She wrote, “It’s an incredible honor to be a part of the Marvel Universe. So many thoughts racing through my head. And the main one is gratitude.”

This is such a big win for women composers, and we couldn’t be more excited for Toprak!

While the film’s plot is being held tightly under wraps — meaning Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo definitely don’t know it — Academy Award-winner Brie Larson stars as the titular Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, in the ’90s-set film, which will likely see the hero intervene in the war between the Kree and the Skrulls. And if that end credit scene at the end of Avengers: Infinity War is any indication, Captain Marvel will be instrumental in setting the stage for Avengers 4.

Captain Marvel also stars Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Mckenna Grace, and Annette Bening. The film will also feature a number familiar faces to the MCU, including Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson. Meanwhile, Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou will reprise their roles as Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer, respectively, from Guardians of the Galaxy.

We’ll hear the Toprak’s incredible score when Captain Marvel hits theaters in March 2019.
