Captain America votes for Brie Larson as Captain Marvel
Brie Larson has had an amazing year. Her performance in Room won her an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. She also got engaged, hosted SNL, and has taken on a number of new projects. Now, she might be able to add one more thing to the list: Playing Captain Marvel!
According to casting rumors, Brie Larson may be in the running for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. But Brie wouldn’t be playing any old character — she’s being considered for the title role. And when Captain America himself Chris Evans was asked about the rumor during a Wizard World panel in Philadelphia, he reacted just like we did: Yes, please!
“I really hope that happens. I love Brie Larson. We did a movie together back in ’09, we did Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” he said. “I cannot say enough about Brie Larson. I think she is phenomenal, and I really hope that happens.”
Captain Marvel, aka Ms. Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, is an officer in the U.S. Air Force and Security Chief of a military base. Her DNA fuses with that of an alien race during an explosion, making her a human-Kree hybrid. Fingers crossed the role goes to Brie! After all, she already has the official stamp of approval from Mr. Captain America himself.
Captain Marvel is part of Marvel’s Phase Three schedule, which also includes Doctor Strange (out in November of this year), Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 2017), and Black Panther (February 2018). It’s set to release in March of 2019. Captain Marvel will be extra special, because it will be the FIRST standalone Marvel movie with a female lead. It will also be written by Meg LeFauve (the writer of Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman(one of the Guardians of the Galaxy writers). Which means we may be crying and laughing in equal measure. Girl power!
