The Capricorn New Moon wants you to become an adventurer in 2018
We’re here for the expansive, dark, fresh energy of the new moon — especially the first of the year, when we get to plant seeds and set our sights on all the adventures we want to have during the year ahead. The Capricorn new moon on January 16th specifically wants you to find your footing and dig your heels into the dirt, so you can bloom to become your most grounded self. This is the sign of the goat, after all, and what’s more goat-like than surviving any terrain with a burst of energy?
This month, we have an extra special treat that coincides with the first new moon of the year. On January 1st, we witnessed a supermoon (when the moon appears bigger and brighter than normal). And on January 31st, we have the second and final supermoon of 2018 — which is also a lunar eclipse. This means we have a new moon sandwiched between two particularly powerful full moons. Since new moons are for new beginnings, this one’s sure to help us manifest our desires while we shed anything we don’t need along the way this new year.
New moon, who dis?
The new moon is when we focus on manifesting and growing.
When the moon’s light is darkened (as it is in the new phase), we focus on our depths, on our shadows, on our needs. We see what’s no longer serving us and we shed it like a snake sheds its skin. We then focus on what is serving us, and what we need more of in the coming month. A new moon is the beginning of a cycle, one which we are connected to through our bodies, both physically and emotionally. As the moon’s light grows, we focus on what we want to grow — and on the new moon, we plant these seeds. What would your best year look like? We talked to astrologer extraordinaire and horoscope queen for Coveteur, Amelia Quint, about the Capricorn new moon, asking what we need to know to make the most of it. She reminds us:

Capricorn is asking us to find our footing, to go slow and steady, and to believe in our journey.
The grounded energy of the goat is asking us to take the easiest, most sustainable route as we envision where we want to end up. This isn’t the time to start five new projects, or sign up for five new classes. It’s the time to pick one class or project to focus on, to start on a new journey that we can maintain throughout the year. These two full supermoons that we have bookending our new moon are like jet fuel; we’re getting a turbo start to 2018, but it’s up to us to make sure we can use this fuel the rest of the year.
There’s no point in burning out, especially so early in the year. Instead, focus on how you can use the adaptable and dependable energy of the Capricorn New Moon to carry you through all of life’s twists and turns this year. Amelia adds,
"Capricorn also has a strong karmic element to it, so if you've put in the work, you'll be rewarded! If you aren't satisfied with your progress, now's the perfect time to switch up your strategy. The card for Capricorn is the Devil, which shows a woman and man bound in chain standing before the Greek god Pan. The thing is, these chains aren’t actually constricting or binding them; these people have the opportunity to remove the shackles and leave. The Devil is a reminder that it’s okay to indulge and treat yourself, but not to the point when you become trapped or it becomes an addiction. The Devil reminds us that we always have sovereignty over our own lives, and that it’s up to us to know when a situation isn’t serving our destiny.
