Healthy after-school snacks to refuel your little ones in the best way

After an exciting day at school, your kids can’t wait to tell you every detail about what they learned and who they played with. This conversation usually happens over an after-school snack, and we have some fun and creative ideas of what to make them.

These snacks are kid approved and tons of fun to eat. They’re also parent approved: Not only will you feel good about preparing them, you’ll also enjoy eating them as much as the kiddos do!

1. Almond butter, banana, and honey quesadilla

New snack recipes? Great. New snack recipes you can make with things you probably already have in your pantry? Even better. These snack quesadillas are a super easy—and super healthy—treat you can whip up in a matter of minutes.Just spread some almond butter on a brown rice tortilla, add banana slices, and drizzle with honey. Fold it in half, heat it up on the stove, and you’ve got an instant crowd pleaser.

2. Capri Sun Organic drinks

Chances are, Capri Sun pouches were the afternoon snack of your dreams in the 90’s. We’re happy to report that the drinks are still around—you can buy them at Walmart!—and they’re a wholesome, balanced, better-for-you snack choice. Capri Sun Organic is a certified USDA organic juice drink, so kids can enjoy a drink as organic as their play.

Capri Sun Organic drinks have no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, and they’re available in delicious flavors you know and love like Fruit Punch and Tropical Punch. Kids love the taste, and parents love the ingredients: Each pouch provides 1/2 cup fruit juice, which is one serving of fruit according to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. That’s a snacktime win-win!

3. Mini cucumber sandwich kebabs

The best snacks are as fun to make as they are to eat. That’s why we love mini cucumber sandwich kebabs. Use a toothpick to skewer a cucumber slice, then load it up with slices of deli meat, cheese, and tomato. Top it off with another cucumber slice and voilà: You have yourself a tiny sandwich kebab. If your kids are old enough, they’ll enjoy customizing and assembling their own!

4. Coconut water fruit popsicles

We’re firm believers that popsicle season is year-round, so don’t put away those popsicle molds just yet. These coconut water fruit popsicles are a treat kids can enjoy any day of the year. Fill molds with an assortment of fruit (we suggest sliced strawberries, sliced kiwi, orange slices, and blueberries), pour in coconut water to fill the mold, and freeze overnight until solid. Yum!

5. Nutella and banana sushi

This kid-friendly snack sushi is tons of fun to eat and shockingly easy to make. All you have to do spread Nutella on a brown rice tortilla and roll it around a whole unsliced banana. Cut it into half-inch thick slices and enjoy! Chopsticks are optional, but add to the snacktime fun.
