This cover of “Can’t Feel My Face” uses only dental tools, is brilliant
This is insanely impressive. Andrew Huang, a Toronto-based new media artist, recorded a cover of The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.” That alone sounds pretty cool, but here’s real the kicker: Huang only used his voice and dental tools to create this masterpiece.
At the end of his video, Huang gives a shout out to Dr. Ronald Nazon at United Smiles of Kensington, who is his actual dentist. According to Huang, he just walked into his dentist’s office and asked if he could film with their tools. Apparently, they were “shockingly down to clown!” If all dentists were as cool as Nazon, maybe people wouldn’t dread their semi-annual appointments so much. Maybe.
It turns out this isn’t the first time Huang has made a killer song using seriously unorthodox instruments. According to website, he’s also made music with balloons, pants, water, and meth lab equipment. Talk about creative. Huang is best known on YouTube for his “Song Challenge” video series, where he invites viewers to “dare him in feats of musicianship.” For “Song Challenge,” he has performed a five-language rap song, covered “99 Red Balloons” using only sounds made with red balloons, and made a beat using a thousand pairs of pants.
For his “Can’t Feel My Face” cover, Huang uses dental drills, water cups, toothbrushes, and even that blue bib they put around you at the dentist. In the video, you can see all the tinkering Huang does with these tools to make his music, and it’s pretty unbelievable. The sounds he gets out of these “instruments” are surprisingly catchy. Who knew you could enjoy anything having to do with the dentist, right?
