Meet the fastest 16-year-old in the world, like, ever

She is being called the “Fastest Girl in the World,” which is why it is about time we learn her name. Candace Hill, a 16-year-old high school student at Rockdale County High School in Georgia, can run. No, she can really, really run. According to CNN, Hill recently ran a sub 11-second, 100 meter sprint.

For those of you who don’t know much about running track (hi, me), that is an incredibly impressive feat. Hill’s official time was fast enough, if she were in a different time and place, to take the silver at the Beijing Games a few years ago. Her time was good enough to rank in the top ten at the 2012 Olympics. Her time is basically out of this world, or at least out of the comprehension of a high school track record. And as of Tuesday, her time earned her the prestigious Gatorade Athlete of the Year Award. (Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning also won one of those).

Hill has been running since seventh grade, only a few short years ago, and now she’s preparing herself to start trying for the Olympics. She’s even set a timeline. “2020 [is] the year I would actually try and want to make the team,” she told CNN.

2020 may seem like quite some time away, and though there are other people in Hill’s life who think she should aim for the 2016 games, Hill is only a sophomore in high school. Can you imagine being a high school sophomore (or any year in high school?!) and having people talk about Olympic dreams?! This girl is incredible.

Hill’s world record was set at an invitational meet in Seattle this past June, and though she would have ranked the top 10 at recent Olympic games, she STILL set a record. She is officially the only person her age to ever run 100m in 11 seconds. When Hill was informed on how fast she ran, she told CNN that she thought it “had to be illegal,” that “the clock had to be broken or something was wrong.” Nothing was wrong. Hill broke a world record and blew everyone out of the water. NBD.
