What can we expect for Annalise Keating when “How to Get Away With Murder” returns?
We know that Thursday night is going to be MAJOR. Why? Because Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, AND How to Get Away With Murder all return to ABC and T.G.I.T. is re-born. And now we have some insight into what might be going on with Annalise Keating, played by the incredible Viola Davis, when HTGAWM comes back.
Given that the entire T.G.I.T. lineup was delayed by a week due to the inauguration, we’ve been waiting extra patiently (okay, impatiently) for our fave Shondaland shows to return, especially How to Get Away With Murder. You might remember that the mid-season finale was one CORKER of an episode. Literally, we were SHOOK.
Warning, the below may contain spoilers for the first half of the third season of How to Get Away With Murder. You have been warned!
Well, Viola Davis has teased what we can expect for her character, the troubled lawyer Annalise Keating, when the show returns on Thursday (January 26th), and we can’t wait.
The winter finale of HTGAWM revealed who was under the sheet the whole time. And now we that we know that Wes Gibbins is dead, we’re pretty sure that the rest of the season is going to be one HECK of an emotional rollercoaster, especially for Annalise Keating. Indeed, the last we saw of Ms. Keating she was in jail and her house was on fire.
Well, speaking to Good Morning America, Viola Davis has said that things aren’t going to be jolly when the show returns. In fact, things are going to get even more crazy.
"I’m waiting for it to get better. I want her to just do better, maybe go to therapy," Davis said. "Let me tell you something, it’s gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets better."
Davis also said that she hoped that the death of Wes, whom her character had a confusing but intense relationship with, would spur her on to care more for the remaining students.
"I have a fantasy," she said, "that that's going to catapult her into wanting the best for rest of the Keating-Five."

Mmm…Given everything that we know about Annalise Keating, we’re not sure that the death of Wes will inspire some new compassion in her. However, we are excited to see the way Viola Davis’ character handles the death, and we’re sure that the actor, who just made history by becoming the first black woman to be nominated three times for an Oscar, will deliver an INCREDIBLE performance.
How to Get Away With Murder returns to ABC on Thursday January 26th at 10/9c.
