Calvin Harris discusses what happened after his breakup with Taylor Swift

Before Taylor Swift’s short-lived but very public relationship with Tom Hiddleston in the summer of 2016, she had been dating DJ and music producer Calvin Harris. And in an interview with British GQ, Harris opened up about his breakup with Swift and addressed those angry tweets about the song “This Is What You Came For.” A year may have passed since all this drama, but Harris’ interview is an unexpected gift for people who can’t get enough of Swift and her relationships.

If you need a refresher (we know, we know — you probably don’t), Harris and Swift dated for 15 months before breaking up in June 2016 — and everything seemed amicable and mature. Just a couple weeks later, Swift was hanging with (and making out with) Hiddleston — and things were still okay. Even though, in hindsight, it seemed like Hiddleston was making moves (quite literally) to win over Swift while she was still with Harris.

But THEN, it was revealed that Swift had written the lyrics for Harris’ song with Rihanna, “This Is What You Came For,” and the gloves came off with Harris going on a Twitter rant that implied Swift’s team had leaked this information to make him look bad. Most of the tweets have since been deleted, but he ended it on a kind of, sort of positive note. false

“It was completely the wrong instinct,” Harris said to British GQ, in an interview published on June 28th. “I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped.” (Harris had written everything but the lyrics for the song.)

He continued:

"It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself. When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense."

"I'm not good at being a celebrity. But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realize that none of that matters. I'm a positive guy."

Since then, the air has apparently cleared between them, with Harris complimenting Swift’s work on the Rihanna song in November 2016. false

And his GQ interview confirms that there seems to be no (ahem) bad blood between them, with him saying:

"For both of us, it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn't right, so it ended, but all of the stuff that happened afterwards..."

So, yes, things weren’t great between Swift and Harris a year ago. But Harris seems to be good now after reflecting on the situation.
