Caitlyn Jenner just learned an important lesson about what it means to be a “real woman”

What’s great about Caitlyn Jenner as an inspirational figure is she’s still very much learning lessons and, for Caitlyn, living in her truth is a constantly evolving process.

In a sneak-peek at this Sunday’s episode of I Am Cait, we see Jenner have a transformative conversation with Jenny Boylan, a writer, professor, the national co-chair of GLAAD, and a fellow trans woman.

As E! reports, Jenner tells Boylan at one point that “It would be very attractive to me to have a guy treat me like a woman.” When Boylan asks Jenner to clarify, Jenner comes back with “Uh, that you would be treated like a normal woman.” And when a clearly-uncomfortable Boylan asks Jenner for the definition of a “normal woman,” Jenner tells Boylan that she wants be treated “…like any other woman on the street, and not make it this big trans thing, or this or that. Just a normal relationship.”

Then Boylan drops a truth bomb on Caitlyn.

“So, you know what, Caitlyn Jenner? You are a normal woman, right now, today. A man is not…You don’t need a man to make you a woman. A woman can make you a woman. I think it’s a thing that women do: we look to men to give us self-worth…Now that you’re in the sisterhood, you have gone to such trouble to be a woman; don’t be a stupid one. Be a smart one.”

We love Boylan’s powerful brand of tough love. Boylan’s words were exactly what Jenner needed to hear in this moment, and Boylan did not shy away from the teachable moment that presented itself. We one-hundred percent co-sign this statement. All women are “normal women,” and it’s our job as members of a sisterhood to make sure we validate each other, to make sure that we all understand and accept our self-worth. Thank you Boylan for telling not only Jenner, but all of us, exactly what we needed to hear.
