Caitlyn Jenner is joining the cast of “Transparent” and we can’t wait!
Since publicly announcing her transition and coming out as transgender, Caitlin Jenner has not strayed far from the spotlight. You could even say she’s been pretty, well, transparent about her new life.
According to Fox, the 66-year-old former athlete and television personality will take that one step further by joining Amazon Prime’s Transparent for season 3. For those who haven’t watched the show yet (and really you should!) it tells the story of a Jewish-American family whose patriarch comes out as its second matriarch when Mort Pfefferman announces his decision to now live as Maura. Maura’s transition sends her family into a tailspin and leaves everyone questioning their own identities.
Showrunner Jill Soloway — whose own father came out as transgender in 2011 and who came out herself last year — announced Jenner’s “dream come true” decision to join the cast of Transparent at the 27th GLAAD Media Awards. Every year, the awards recognize those who are telling the stories of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people through the visual arts. At Saturday’s award ceremony, Jenner picked up an Outstanding Reality Program award for her E! show, I Am Cait — and got a pretty great bathroom photo with Jill Soloway and other women attending the show.
Caitlyn also posed with Transparent star Judith Light during the event; it sure seems like there’s a gorgeous amount of love here already.
“We are all part of the same community. A lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, I Am Cait,” Soloway told reporters. “Lots of crossover. Lots of friends.”
There’s no word yet on who Jenner will portray, but she will begin filming her scenes this month in preparation for the show’s return in late 2016.
