Caitlyn Jenner’s patriotic message got us all misty-eyed
A little over a week ago, E! released a brand new clip of Caitlyn Jenner’s new reality TV show, I Am Cait. It hit us right in the feels. Seriously. “People don’t understand looking into the mirror and nothing seems right,” she explains in the clip. “Putting on clothes that you just really don’t identify with.”
The show, which will premiere later this month, will chronicle her debut to society as Caitlyn. As Caitlyn herself explains, “This is about getting to be who you really are.” Caitlyn has been through so much throughout her incredible life, and now she is finally able to live her truth — proudly and openly. That’s why her super patriotic Instagram post this past Saturday totally had us choking up. She posted a picture of the American flag with just a few powerful words that were enough to hit us, once again, right in the feels. The message managed to both burst our hearts with pride for Caitlyn and pride for the U. S. of A.
“Happy 4th of July!” she wrote in the caption. “Proud to be an American . . . where at least I am free to be me.” OUR HEARTS.
These few words remind us of Caitlyn’s incredible journey, which she described to Vanity Fair as uncomfortable and painful, but absolutely, 100% necessary. “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life,’” Caitlyn explained to Vanity Fair in the magazine’s July piece. “‘You never dealt with yourself,’ and I don’t want that to happen.” Her message also underscores what an incredible country we live in. A country where we are free to be ourselves, and where acceptance is growing each and every day.
Thank you, Caitlyn, and happy belated Fourth of July. We love you just how you are.
