Cadbury Creme Eggs have totally changed. Cue outrage.

You might want to sit down for this. Some pretty big information has recently been uncovered, and it pertains to one of our favorite things: chocolate. Not just any chocolate, but Cadbury chocolate. And not just any Cadbury chocolate, but the Cabrudy Creme Egg. Are you ready for this? Turns out that the US owner of Cadbury, Kraft, secretly changed the chocolate recipe for the egg, according to The Sun. I told you this was going to be shocking.

The shell of the Cadbury Creme eggs have always been made with dairy milk, but now, it’s reportedly being mass produced with a simple “standard coco mix.” Which, if you ask me, simply sounds like they’re using hot chocolate powder to make this delicious chocolate treat. A spokesperson for Kraft stated that, the chocolate is still “similar, but not exactly Dairy Milk. We tested the new one with consumers. It was found to be the best one for the Creme Egg, which is why we’ve used it this year.” Uh, we weren’t invited to this test to decide the fate of Cadbury chocolate. What gives?

You have to admit that even though our love for chocolate is universal, not all chocolate is made the same. Yes, chocolate does taste different, depending on what kind of candy bar you’re eating. And I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve always held Cadbury in a very high chocolate regard, one form of chocolate that is saved for special occasions so I can savor every last bite of it. This news is kind of a huge bummer, and might make me question just how many eggs to scoop up on my next trip down the candy aisle.

They’ve also narrowed down their standard 6-pack of chocolate eggs to a less exciting 5-pack. Cadbury is trying to handle damage control over on their Twitter, where they’re responding to outrage with only the best egg-placed puns:

It sounds like Kraft & Cadbury should probably call Olivia Pope to handle this situation.
