Busy Philipps shared the gut-wrenching texts she sent the executive who canceled her talk show

After only seven months on air, E! decided to pull the plug on Busy Philipps’s talk show, Busy Tonight, in April 2019. Although we could only imagine the heartbreak Philipps felt, she kept a pretty straight face on social media. However, behind the scenes, it was a different story. In a New Year’s Instagram post, Philipps shared how the cancellation of her show took a toll on her and even showed the hilarious/gut-wrenching text message she sent to the executive who failed to inform her first that the show took a nose dive.

"I flew to Dallas to shoot commercials over the weekend for Michael’s," Philipps recalled in the caption of her January 1st post. "When I landed, my manager texted me to call her...And she told me E! would not renew my show after the order was finished in a month. It was effectively cancelled."

Philipps wrote she was “blindsided,” especially because the last text she received from the former head of E! was regarding some exciting Busy Tonight marketing news.

“I did what anyone would do,” she wrote, which was order a few tequilas, call her loved ones, and cry. “I waited for a call or email from someone at E, which never came so I sent a text to the head of the network that truly makes me lol to this day (slide 3).”

The text conversation in question began with Philipps sending “Cool last to text me” to the then-head of E!, who responded, “Know you’re out of town…I’m available to talk whenever you would like.” Then Philipps delivered the crushing blow: “Nah dude. You’re bad at your job. Do better.”

"Then I took some selfies (first 2 pics)...then I went and got a tattoo on my ankle; the illustration from my book from the chapter where I got super fucked over by some dudes in this business (slide 5), THEN before I went to bed, I saw it was a new moon and what that moon meant (slide6)," Philipps continued in her post.

That letter written by her daughter Birdie and addressed to E! toward the end of the photo set is absolutely sublime.

"I work hard AF and love to prove people wrong and finally, the men will always try to fuck you over so fuck em and figure out something else," Philipps wrote, adding that she's so excited to share what she's been working on in the past few months.

We have a feeling that Philipps’s latest project will be the shove up the you-know-what Birdie promised, and we can’t wait to see it in action.
