Burger King’s Chicken Fries are back and people are bonkers excited!
So, word on the street is that Burger King is kind of winning the fast food burger game. The Whopper empire is even beating out McDonald’s by .6 percent in sales (which doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you’re talking about millions and millions of dollars, it’s actually kinda pretty major) and according to Business Insider, their stock has gone up 60 percent in 2014. Much of BK’s burgerenaissance is due to a shift in marketing strategy — they offer better deals than their competitors, they’re keeping their menu simple, and they’re snazzying up their restaurants. OH, and they’re also bringing back chicken fries, and yes it’s OK to squeal a little and do your secret happy dance.
Yesterday, Burger King made the big announcement, stating that not only are our beloved fries made of crispy, deep-fried chicken back on the menu, but they’re back on the menu PERMANENTLY. That means you can order chicken fries whenever you want. Wherever you want. And BK is very excited and very confident about this business strategy. “I’m not sure there’s anything similar to Chicken Fries with regards to a pop culture following,” Eric Hirschhorn, chief marketing officer of North America said in an interview. “The passion for this is like the launch of an iPhone.”
In fairness, the McRib is kind of a big deal too. But back to Chicken Fries: they were first introduced to the world in 2005, bid a bittersweet farewell (mostly bitter) in 2012 when the company downsized their menu. This culinary injustice encouraged Chicken Fry diehards to speak out, write articles, create Facebook groups and Twitter accounts, ask President Obama to bring those puppies back.
Well, the good news is that they won, and soon you’ll be able to order as many Chicken Fries as your heart desires with seven different kinds of sauces, because the world needs more Fry-shaped chicken we can dip into things.
