“Riverdale” is adding another classic Archie Comics character, and she could mean trouble for Bughead

We’re headed back into the world of Riverdale for Season 2, and it looks like a new face is coming to town. Archie Comics character Toni Topaz is joining Riverdale, and she just might make some waves for our faves Betty and Jughead. (But also, she’s going to rock pink hair, so we kinda love her already for that.)

At the end of Season 1, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) appeared to be joining the Southside Serpents, a move that could threaten the security of his relationship with Betty (Lili Reinhart). And now, the new girl on the scene may also threaten the relationship.

Vanessa Morgan — who you may recognize from The Shannara Chronicles — will assume that role.

Look, here she is with Madelaine Petsch, who plays Cheryl Blossom.

Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told ET Online a bit about what we can expect from the character:

"In the Riverdale version of this character, she's going to be a student at Southside High. She's going to be a member of the Southside Serpents, and she's going to be a friend and confidant to Jughead Jones."

Additionally, Aguirre-Sacasa said that Toni’s bisexuality will be explored in the show.

As for Bughead, could this new “confidant” cause some issues for the fan-favorite couple?! Here’s what Aguirre-Sacasa said about that:

"Bughead is pretty strong, and pretty undeniable, and pretty epic, but you know even the most epic of romances has trouble — and trouble often comes as a third party. So yes, it is conceivable that Toni will potentially test the limits of Bughead."

So, we’re guessing it won’t be smooth sailing for Bughead this season. But with 22 episodes, there’s plenty of time to (hopefully) resolve any issues.

And now, we’ll count down to Season 2 of Riverdale, which premieres October 11th on The CW.
