K-pop group BTS is Time‘s Next Generation Leaders cover stars: “Maybe we could perform at the Super Bowl someday”
Time has at last named its “Next Generation Leaders” and although stars like Ariana Grande made the list, one of three coveted cover spots went to K-pop group BTS.
BTS is Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, J-Hope, RM, V, and Suga—a collection of singers and rappers between the ages of 21 and 25, who told Time “[it’s] just an honor to be called an ambassador of Korean K-Pop.” BTS is like the One Direction of Korea, but arguably more versatile because they do expert choreography. More accurately, they’re like if The Beatles, NSYNC, and One Direction had a super talented love-child. However, unlike most boy bands, their music appeals to Gen Z in a way that gimmicky boy band songs about love and lust cannot.
“We started to tell the stories that people wanted to hear and were ready to hear, stories that other people could not or would not tell, Suga said. “We said what other people were feeling—like pain, anxieties and worries. That was our goal, to create this empathy that people can relate to.
They also carry a self-love mantra throughout their work with two albums referencing the phrase, “Love Yourself.”
While they are the first K-pop group to top Billboard’s Album chart and the first Korean act to sell out a U.S. stadium, they have even higher aspirations: “Maybe we could perform at the Super Bowl someday,” Suga said.
Besides their break-the-internet accolades, we’re here to confirm that their music bangs. You can lose an entire day watching their music videos.
