Bryce Dallas Howard Says She Was Pressured to Lose Weight

In a new interview, the actress reveals she was asked to lose weight for the 'Jurassic World' movies.

Once again, Bryce Dallas Howard is keeping it real. The Jurassic World actress, who has been very outspoken about the disparities she’s faced while working on the beloved dinosaur franchise, has come forward with another truth bomb. Unfortunately, it’s a sad reality that women in Hollywood—and in general, for that matter—experience way too often.

Howard revealed in a new interview with the UK’s Metro that there have been several instances during which Hollywood execs have had “concern” over her weight during her time filming the Jurassic World movies.

“What being in this third film allowed, how do I say this, how do I say this, how do I say this, [I’ve] been asked to not use my natural body in cinema,” Howard told the outlet.

She then went on to explain how Jurassic World Dominion (now streaming on Peacock) director Colin Trevorrow protected her from this shameful pattern.

“On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me . . . because the conversation came up again, ‘We need to ask Bryce to lose weight.'”

Howard continued: “He was like, ‘There are lots of different kinds of women on this planet and there are lots of different kinds of women in our film’ and I got to do so many stunts that wouldn’t have been possible if I had been dieting.”

There’s no question about it, Howard is a stunt master. As the indestructible Claire Dearing, the actress is constantly tapping into her martial arts background and hurling her body through the air. Naturally, these impressive moves require Howard to be her strongest, healthiest self.

Muscle, however, doesn’t always translate to beauty in Hollywood.

While an unwarranted conversation, Howard is proud of the outcome. More importantly, she’s proud of the powerful message it sends to fans.

“I’m really thrilled [at] all the action I got to do, and I got to do it with my body, she was at her maximum strength, and I hope it is just yet another indication of what’s possible,” she said.
