Bryan Singer has been outright fired from the Queen biopic — and supposedly, he and Rami Malek did *not* get along

Following reports at the end of last week that production on the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, had been halted due to director Bryan Singer’s sudden absence, there’s more news from the set. Now, Fox has announced that Singer has been outright fired from the film, though the real reason and motivation behind the move is still unclear. However, one thing is apparent: Singer and Bohemian Rhapsody star, Rami Malek, did not get along.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the news, Singer was frequently absent from set, which left the movie’s director of photography to step in so filming could continue. On top of that, one of the actors actually quit the movie in the middle of production, but he has since been persuaded to come back and finish. And, the real kicker, Malek, “complained to the studio, charging Singer with not being present on set, unreliability and unprofessionalism.” Supposedly, the two actually got into a fight on set, and while THR notes that the altercation did not get physical, Singer threw something at Malek. Whoa.

Is this the reason Singer didn’t return to set following the Thanksgiving break? Not exactly. Per one source, he didn’t report for his directing job because he is “suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the tensions on the set.”

It’s clear that Fox had enough of this behavior, and let Singer go from the film. The movie is still currently on hold, and has about two weeks left to go before filming wraps. A new director will be named in the next few days, and maybe it’ll be Ron Howard! It will 100% not be Ron Howard, but we can dream. Let’s just hope this director switch is handled ASAP, so that Bohemian Rhapsody can finish on schedule and still hit theaters on December 25th, 2018.
