Bryan Cranston Urges You to Wear a “Damn Mask” After Contracting COVID-19
He's now donating his "liquid gold" plasma.
In a new Instagram video, Bryan Cranston revealed that he was diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) “a little while ago.” The Breaking Bad star shared that he was lucky to have had “very mild symptoms,” but he’s urging fans and followers to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines—especially because he says he was “pretty strict in adhering to the protocols” and still contracted the virus.
Cranston opened up about his experiences, sharing that he had a “slight headache, tightness of chest, and lost all taste and smell,” but he considers himself “one of the lucky ones” due to the fact that more than 150,000 Americans have lost their lives from coronavirus. He didn’t specify when he had COVID-19, only sharing that it was “very early on” in the pandemic.
In an accompanying video, the actor documented his visit to the UCLA Donation Center, sharing that he donated plasma in an effort to help researchers and medical experts find a cure or treatment for COVID-19.
Infusing his signature humor, Cranston joked that his plasma is “liquid gold” in the effort to combat coronavirus and help patients in need.
The process took Cranston about an hour and he hopes his donation can “help some other people” battling the virus. He joins fellow celeb COVID-19 survivors, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, in donating plasma for their antibodies, which could help in developing a vaccine.
Aside from detailing the process of donating plasma, Cranston issued an impassioned plea for followers to keep following safety protocols and procedures in an effort to slow the spread.
“About now you’re probably feeling a little tied down, restricting your mobility and like me, you’re tired of this!! Well, I just want to encourage you to have a little more patience,” he wrote. “I count my blessings and urge you to keep wearing the damn mask, keep washing your hands, and stay socially distant. We can prevail—but ONLY if we follow the rules together.”
