Bruce Springsteen gave this kid an epic excuse for being late to school

Every kid has that occasional day when they miss the bus and are late for school. But last week, one kid officially had the most amazing hall pass. . . thanks to Bruce Springsteen.

Last Tuesday night, nine-year-old Xabi Globsky went with his dad, Scott, to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena to see Bruce play in The River Tour. It was a long concert — 35 songs over the course of three and a half hours! — and ended at 11:40, much past Xabi’s bedtime. Luckily, Xabi and Scott were prepared with a sign that read, “Bruce, I will be late to school tomorrow. Please sign my note!”

Bruce spotted the sign and invited the pair backstage. There, he gave Xabi the best tardy note the world has ever seen, addressed to Xabi’s teacher, Ms. Jackson. “Dear Ms. Jackson,” he wrote in the note. “Xabi has been out very late rocking and rolling. Please excuse him if he is tardy!”

They also got a picture together, and it’s pretty fabulous:

“Bruce sat down on a couch and started to talk with Xabi, asking for the name of his teacher and how Xabi spelled his name, pulling out a piece of paper and a pen,” Scott told Backstreets, a website devoted to Bruce Springsteen. “As Xabi sat next to him on the couch, Bruce thoughtfully and artistically created this beautiful note. It was very interesting to watch the artist at work. They talked for a few minutes, and Bruce was incredibly nice, caring and gracious.”

“[I’ve been] a devoted fan for more than three decades, and having attended more than a hundred shows, it was a very special night for me,” Scott continued. “Last night Bruce made a little boy’s wishes come true.”

We have a feeling Ms. Jackson understood. After all, there’s a reason they call him The Boss.
