Brittney Griner Takes It To The House

In the words of the legendary NBA Jam announcer, “BOOMSHAKALA!” and/or “(S)HE’S ON FIRE!”

Brittney Griner, the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft, played her debut game in the league with the Phoenix Mercury on Monday. Homegirl blew minds and broke a record as she became the first player in the WNBA to dunk twice in one game. Not only that, but she finished the game with 17 total points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, which amounts to a pretty sweet start. While the Mercury failed to take home the W, Brittney graciously accepted her accolades and looked forward to the future:

At 22-years-old, Griner, a Baylor graduate, is shattering glass backboards and glass ceilings as the first openly gay athlete to score an endorsement deal with Nike.

For a league that has been widely ignored, fans are hoping Griner’s double-dunk game and out-and-proud persona will breathe new life into women’s basketball.

“MONSTER jam!”
