Britney Spears is FINE and still living her best life, so please ignore cruel Internet hoaxes
Panic rang out around the world after Sony Music tweeted that Britney Spears had died. Luckily for all of humanity, Spears is not dead. In fact, she is alive and well, and the hoax tweet was only a result of a cruel hack.
Sony Music Global posted a now-deleted tweet which read “britney spears is dead by accident! we will tell you more soon #RIPBritney ”
While lack of proper grammar and casual emoji usage hinted that the tweet was less than legitimate, the tweet still struck fear into many a heart.
The sudden death of one of pop music’s greatest icons is not something you can joke about in this year that has taken so many beloved entertainers.
It didn’t help ease people’s minds when, shortly thereafter, the official twitter account for Bob Dylan released a similar tweet:
The utter fear circling the Internet was enough that Spears’ representation had to get involved.
CNN News Editor AnneClaire Stapleton stepped in to clear the air.
Britney Spears is alive and well, her rep tells CNN. It appears @SonyMusicGlobal erroneously tweeted her death. Sony rep says no comment

So we should all be pleased to know that Spears is living her best life, celebrating the holidays with family and posing in Charlie’s Angels-fashion in her latest Instagram snap.
Allow us to all exhale a big sigh of relief.
