People are suddenly freaking out about this classic British dish

Looking to mix up your Thanksgiving dinner offerings? Why not take some inspiration from our neighbors across the pond? Recently, the New York Times featured a recipe for the iconic British food, the sausage roll, and its American debut has really got some people freaking out.

There are two sides to the social media storm that ensued following the release of the recipe. Americans don’t know what a sausage roll is, and the Brits can’t believe we haven’t experienced them yet. The two worlds hilariously collided over on Twitter:

As someone who has been lucky enough to eat a sausage roll, I have to agree. Americans are missing out, and I’ll tell you why. A sausage roll is pretty much exactly what it sounds like—a sausage encased in a roll, or rather, a pastry. Think pigs in a blanket, but a little heartier. In the UK, you can pick them up, ready-made and warm at supermarkets. Here, they’re a little harder to come by, which is why the Times‘ recipe will come in handy.

You can eat them as a snack, or turn them into a full meal. Whatever you choose, they’re already taking American soil by storm, so don’t be surprised if they pop up at your dinner table this holiday season.
