Stop everything! There’s a new Bridget Jones book coming out

It looks like 2016 might just be the year of the literary character comeback. Not only have we been blessed with a brand new Harry Potter story but we’re also getting a peek into the J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. Yet Harry isn’t the only character making a comeback; 2016 looks set to bring back someone a little less magical but no less popular, large knicker advocate Bridget Jones.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Bridget would be making her cinematic comeback in Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third film to be based on the extremely popular novels by British writer Helen Fielding, and it looks HILARIOUS.

The film sees Renée Zellweger reprise her role as the immutable Bridget Jones, with Colin Firth starring as her ex Mark Darcey, and Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey joining as a new love interest, Jack Qwant. Oh, it also seems that trio get involved in some seriously crazy baby daddy buisness, too!
Now author Helen Fielding has revealed that she’s also been working on a brand new Bridget Jones novel, too, which is due for release later this year.
The book will be the fourth in the series, following the release of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in 2013. However, unlike Mad About the Boy, which was set 18 years after the second book and saw the main character already living through motherhood, this new instalment will take follow the birth of her first child.
Eeek! We’re sure this is bound to be so funny.
In a statement to The Bookseller, the publisher described the book, which is titled Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries as “full of cheesy potatoes, outlandish advice from Drunken Singletons and Smug Mothers, chaos at scans and childbirth classes, high jinks and romance, joy and despair.”
Speaking about the release, author Helen Fielding said, “At heart Bridget Jones is about the gap between how we all feel we’re expected to be and how we actually are and – as Bridget discovers with her somewhat bumpy pregnancy – how we expect life to turn out and how it actually does.”
The book is due to be published on 11 October, a month after the film’s release on 16 September.
We’re so excited to welcome Bridget back into our lives. It looks like Fall ’16 just got 100-times more hilarious.
