This bridal shop is going viral for its incredibly inclusive window display
“Body inclusivity” is a phrase we’ve been hearing more and more in recent years—especially in terms of brands and advertising. However, seeing genuine diversity and inclusion in stores, magazines, and media is sadly still often the exception as opposed to the norm…and also why we’re currently all about a little bridal shop called The White Collection in Bristol, England. The store’s current window display features a mannequin in a gorgeous wedding dress…a mannequin that happens to be in a wheelchair.
The display was first noticed by local Beth Wilson, who is disabled. She snapped a picture of the display and posted it to Twitter, writing, “The new wedding shop in town has a wheelchair using mannequin and it shouldn’t be exciting but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen disability portrayed in a shop window.”

While speaking to Cosmo.com, she said, "This is the first time I’ve seen a wheelchair in a shop window like this (mobility shops not included) and it was so surprising to see and made me feel represented. So often disabled people feel invisible because we don’t see ourselves in the media much, and especially not modeling beautiful clothes. The reaction on Twitter has shown that it means a lot to other people, too."
Wilson’s initial tweet—which was posted the morning of January 9th, has been liked almost 8,000 times and has already been shared over 2,000 times.
We’re sending major kudos to The White Collection today (and also hoping that other stores—and especially major brands—take note).
