Watch Kamala Harris’ Surprise Appearance on Brandy and Monica’s ‘Verzuz’ Battle

Also, Michelle Obama, we see you in the comments.

Brandy and Monica’s Verzuz battle on Monday night was, as expected, absolutely iconic. Over 20 years since the release of their 1998 hit, “The Boy is Mine,” the R&B singers reunited to battle it out for the popular Instagram Live series. To make the night even more historic, democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris dropped in for a surprise visit.

Harris, just as excited to see Brandy and Monica as they were to see her, thanked the singers for using their platforms to help get out the vote. (The R&B icons put out limited-edition Brandy v. Monica merch, from which 100% of the proceeds will go to Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote.)

“I just wanted to thank you ladies, you queens, you stars, you icons” Harris said, speaking via video link.

“Thank you for doing this for When We All Vote. It’s so important for everyone. You both have used your voice in such a powerful way, and an extension of our voices is our vote.”

Monica agreed with Harris, responding, “We understand the importance of people getting out and voting right now, and they feel so helpless right now, but that’s how you help yourself, you help your community, you help your brothers and sisters.”

Brandy chimed in, saying, “I’m fangirling right now, but I definitely agree.”

While Harris was the only person to make a surprise “visit” to the show, plenty of other big names made appearances in the comments, including Michelle Obama.

“I hope you all are making sure to register to vote too!” she wrote.

Solange and Tyler the Creator even had a dispute about what Monica was wearing, debating over whether she had on pants that looked like boots or boots that looked like pants.

Mariah Carey also popped in the comments to show her support. “Hi everyone!! I love this!! Sending love to both these beautiful talented women.”

Tiffany Haddish, Zayn Malik, Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, JoJo, Keke Palmer, Ashanti, Questlove, Lena Waithe, Missy Elliott, Kehlani, Chloe x Halle, and more were all spotted in the chat as well.
