Most elementary school kids can solve this brain teaser that totally stumped us

If you think you’re smarter than the average elementary school-aged kid, think again. A popular brain teaser is making its way ’round the Interwebz, and it turns out that more kids can crack it than adults.

The National Geographic brain teaser shows a picture of a symmetrical yellow school bus, with zero hints on which end is the front and which is the back. The challenge: To determine which direction the bus would go in if it started moving forward.

If you’re stumped, you’re not alone. According to National Geographic, 80 percent of children under 10 were able to provide the correct answer immediately when asked on an episode of the Brain Games TV show. However, most adults were totally confused. The test isn’t new — the video was posted in 2013 — but it’s recently been going viral, with almost 1.2 million views.

Want to know the answer? For those who live in the UK — where you drive on the left-hand side of the road — the answer is that the bus is traveling to the right; for Americans, to the left. But how could there possibly be an answer with no clues? Well, since there are no bus doors in the picture, they must be on the other side, closest to the sidewalk.

So, sure, experience can make us richer and well-rounded. . . but not *always* smarter.
