Bradley Cooper feels the same way about Paul Rudd as we do
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp premiers on Netflix this FRIDAY. As in, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, then FRIDAY. Netflix’s newest original show takes us back to the first day at Camp Firewood, as the campers begin to show up, and shenanigans ensue. Bradley Cooper is once again reprising his role as Ben, and he’s already calling out one other Camp Firewood counselor: Paul Rudd’s Andy. While everyone else has grown up over the last 15 years, Rudd has miraculously not.
One of the best, if not THE best, joke of Wet Hot American Summer is that all the adults in the movie are pretending to be teenagers. It’s never addressed. It’s just accepted that everyone’s 16/17 years old. That joke has thankfully carried over to Netflix, where once again, these adults are playing 16/17 year olds, and it is once again never addressed — even though now there’s obviously no way any of them could ever pass for teenagers. The more you think about it, the funnier it gets, trust me.
Now enter Cooper, who does appear to have aged over the last decade — it’s a thing that happens when you grow older, nothing wrong with it, and Copper still looks great. All the actors returning for Wet Hot American Summer look great. However, Cooper can’t help but notice that Rudd looks exactly the same as he did 15 years ago. In a brand new featurette for the show, Cooper mentions that, “it’s amazing how everyone looks,” but then adds, “Paul Rudd looks exactly the same.”
Don’t believe it? Here’s Rudd from First Day of Camp, present day (and why is he wearing a rhinestone studded shirt? I don’t know! But I’m so excited to find out!).
And here are two of Rudd from 15 years ago, on the “last” day of camp.
Amy Poehler, who returns as Susie, comments that it “looks like everyone is playing their own parents.” Except for Rudd, who is still very much “cut from marble” — not my words, those are Katie’s, Andy’s on and off again summer love.
You can check out the full behind-the-scenes video for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp below, and don’t forget, you can re-watch the OG Wet Hot American Summer at least 5 (if not more) between now and Friday.
Also, if you need more Paul-Rudd-has-not-aged action, Vulture has a phenomenal quiz entitled, “Can you tell which Paul Rudd is older? (we doubt it).” It’s super hard.
