Brad Pitt opened up about threatening Harvey Weinstein over his treatment of Gwyneth Paltrow

In a new interview with CNN‘s Christiane Amanpour, Brad Pitt opens up about confronting disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, who allegedly sexually harassed Pitt’s then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow back in the mid-1990s. Paltrow thanked Pitt in her 2017 New York Times profile about her experiences with Weinstein, who has since pleaded not guilty to all sexual assault charges against him.

At 22 years old, Gwyneth Paltrow was an up-and-coming actress who had just been cast in the film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, distributed by Weinstein’s Miramax. But when the actress had a meeting with the producer at his hotel suite, it “ended with Mr. Weinstein placing his hands on her and suggesting they head to the bedroom for massages,” NYT reports. Paltrow immediately left and told her then-boyfriend Pitt about the encounter.

Paltrow said that Pitt later saw Weinstein at a Broadway production of Hamlet and reportedly told the producer, “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.”

In April 2018, Pitt’s production company, Plan B, and Annapurna Pictures acquired the film rights to Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey’s New York Times investigative report on Weinstein.

Paltrow is one of more than 60 women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault or harassment. He was arrested on rape charges in May 2018.
