BONUS Item of the Day: David Iserson’s ‘Firecracker’
It’s always a nice treat when you read a book and you find that the lead character is someone you’d like to fight crime with, or get into trouble with. Astrid Krieger lands a spot in both of those categories. From the brilliant mind of New Girl writer, David Iserson, comes Firecracker, the hilarious tale of a rich girl who gets kicked out of private school and is sentenced by her parents to attend the local public high school.
Her incredibly wealthy family is not a collection of saints, and Astrid is well aware of that. She embraces the crazy in her loved ones and has endless admiration for her grandfather, a politician that makes his money building nuclear warheads. You might not be inclined to root for her at first, but you’ll certainly be entertained by her sassy mouth, her quest for revenge on the individual/s that betrayed her and got her kicked out of private school, and her unshakable confidence. Ultimately, Astrid realizes that she can do some good in this world. It’s her journey to this realization, filled with fantastically crafted characters and solid one-liners that will make you LOL.
