Blake Shelton’s new album will reveal the truth about his split with Miranda Lambert
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s relationship, marriage, and divorce held a regular spot in the rumor mill for years, and now that it’s officially over, Blake is processing his concluded love story the way so many artists do: through his music.
Last week at an iHeartRadio theater in Burbank, California, the 39 year-old country singer held a listening party for his forthcoming album, If I’m Honest.
According to an LA Times report on the event, The Voice coach revealed the meaning of the album’s title to the 450 or so guests in attendance. “I just want to tell the truth about what happened,” he said in reference to the last 12 months, which involved a divorce from Miranda Lambert and a romance with his fellow coach and judge on The Voice, Gwen Stefani.
“I figure since everyone else is cashing in on my life, I might as well get some of that too,” Shelton added in his characteristically wry demeanor.
Blake Shelton previewed new songs titled “Sangria” and “Savior’s Shadow”, but he also played older hits like “Honey Bee” and “Boys ‘Round Here.”
The biggest crowd-pleaser of the night was “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” which Shelton wrote with Stefani. Earlier in the week the couple performed an incredible live duet of the song on The Voice.
“Gwen and I wrote a song together, and it’s the only song we’ve written together, sadly,” Blake Shelton said when introducing the song. He then turned to his partner and admitted, “I only started this song just to try to impress you.”
“It worked,” Stefani replied. And we’re sure it did! Though it’s always sad when a relationship ends, it helps us all when a musician can turn their pain into art we all can use to help get through our troubles. And even better when a sad love story is followed by a happy silver lining!
The iHeartRadio performance will be broadcast Wednesday, May 18, on iHeartMedia Country radio stations and iHeartRadio.com. In the meantime, check out Gwen and Blake’s new song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
