Blake Shelton’s new album is about his split with Miranda Lambert

We were totally blown away last month when Gwen Stefani sang her newest single “Used to Love You” on The Voice. Written by Stefani herself and inspired by her split from Gavin Rossdale, the song is a total heartbreaker. (It’s also completely gorgeous.) Now it appears that Blake Shelton, four-time winning coach of The Voice and Stefani’s new main squeeze, is also using music as a way to work through personal pain. In a recent chat with Country Countdown USA, Blake said his new album will be heavily influenced by his recent divorce from Miranda Lambert.

Shelton and Lambert announced their divorce last spring, and country music lovers had some definite feelings. All of us were pretty broken up about it, but now everyone seems to be doing fine. Lambert has spoken openly about the split in a really healthy way (while rocking some seriously amazing pink highlights in her hair). Shelton is of course now dating Stefani, and they are beyond adorable together. It seems that part of the healing process for Shelton has been writing new music.

“I’ve written more than I’ve written in 15 years, for obvious reasons — all the awful things that have happened in my personal life — but the way the year ended is also the greatest of my life,” he says. “If I got hit by a truck, the label would have enough for a new album.”

We’re guessing that the happy ending to 2015 he alludes to is his relationship with Stefani, which he elaborated on by saying, “Sometimes you don’t know who’s in your life that can save you. I found some people in my life that have changed my life forever.” Awwww.

Writing about life’s difficulties is a great way of working through things. (I’m a writer. TRUST.) Shelton says it feels good to get those feelings out and move on. “Some has been bad, and some that’s been pretty good. I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, and that’s put all I’ve gone through and put it into music, and I never felt more connected to a record before. When people hear this record, they may not know what happened to me, but they’re gonna know how I felt about it. And that’s exciting for me, to just lay it out there for people.”

We’re anxiously awaiting Shelton’s new project. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer. He has plans to release a new single this month, with the rest of the album following in May. Bring it!
