If you were a child of the ’90s or even the early ’00s, then you remember the era when one powerhouse couple ruled the realm of golden-haired pop: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Their romance was the stuff of MTV legend. Their bond was seemingly impenetrable. They had dorky nicknames for each other (JT called Brit “Pinky,” and she called him “Stinky” —no real explanation there). They met in the Mickey Mouse Club and it was love at first sight, and you just can’t take that away from me OK?
Well, it turns out I’m not the only Britney and JT worshipper. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds apparently appreciate these ex-love birds as much as I do. Enough to warrant a reasonably bad (but still amazing) Photoshopped tribute. Taking Britney and Justin’s iconic matching denim ensemble from the 2001 American Music Awards, Ryan Reynolds digitally edited it onto a photo of him and Blake, and tweeted the results. It was infinitely wonderful and nostalgia-inducing.
Take a look and maybe take a moment of silence for the glory that was the Britney + Justin love empire.
