We can’t get enough of Blake Lively’s awesome acceptance speech about Girl Power

We really needed a little boost this week, and it’s come in the shape of Blake Lively’s amazing acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards.

In a move that has surprised some, Blake Lively beat out the likes of Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Julia Roberts to pick up the gong for Favorite Dramatic Actress at the People’s Choice Awards for her role in the shark thriller The Shallows.

The movie saw Lively, well, take on a shark. The 29-year-old actor plays a medical student who, after becoming trapped on a rock while surfing in Mexico, has to navigate her way back to shore. However, a great white shark has decided that it’s dinner time, so Lively’ character has to try and make it out alive. Exciting stuff, we think you’ll agree.

Well, given that she totally rocked her performance in the film, it’s no surprise that Blake Lively picked up the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Dramatic Actress.

However, following a string of incredible speeches in Hollywood recently, it’s Lively’s acceptance speech that has us truly inspired.

"My mom, she always taught me as a kid that you can’t ever let anyone limit you. Don’t ever let anyone tell you there’s something you can’t do," she said. "I was always an ambitious kid, and I knew that if I could accomplish this that I would be successful and I would be happy, and that was to meet the Spice Girls."

While Blake went on tot say that hasn’t yet met the Spice Girls (boo), she did explain what it was about the group that meant to much to her, and we have to say we agree.

"What was so neat about them was that they’re all do distinctly different, and they were women, and they owned who they were, and that was my first introduction into girl power," she said. "Watching this movie, and the women nominated in this category — when you guys voted for this, you didn’t just vote for this movie or me, but you voted for girl power. It's true. And men voted for girl power, too, and you guys are awesome for doing that.

Lively then went on to say that that Hollywood needed to hear the stories of more girls.

“Thank you for sending a message to Hollywood that people want to hear stories about women," she said. "We want to hear your stories. Whether it’s social media, your iPhone — whatever, tell your stories, now more than ever. You need to be heard, you are valuable, and no one can limit you!

We have to say, we’re pretty darn inspired by Lively’s speech. It’s so great to see her using her platform to encourage women (and men) everywhere. Also, we’re pretty stoked for her for picking up an award, too! You go, girl!
