Ross from “Friends” basically predicted “Black Mirror” episode “San Junipero,” and we are SHOOK

We just discovered an unforeseen benefit of Netflix streaming, like, every show ever. Netflix just uncovered a weeeeeird crossover between Black Mirror‘s “San Junipero” and Friends!

During a casual conversation, Ross totally predicted the existence of a reality just like San Junipero, a simulated beach resort town that the elderly can visit as their younger selves and the deceased can live permanently in — as seen in the Emmy-winning episode.

Since we can hardly predict what we’re going to wear tomorrow, we’re super impressed by his foresight. And seeing as Friends and Black Mirror are ♬ a few of our favorite things ♬, we’re extra excited about this crossover.

In the Friends episode in question, which aired in 1999, Ross theorizes about the future…

“By the year 2030, there will be computers that can carry out the same amount of functions as an actual human brain. So, theoretically, you can download your thoughts and memories into this computer, and live forever as a machine!"

First of all, big ol’ yikes at this concept. “San Junipero” is def one of our fav things ever, but there’s a big difference between a fictional love story in a brain computer, and actually thinking about becoming a computerized version of ourselves. Y-I-K-E-S.

Netflix created a video about the connection between Ross’s rant on Friends and the Black Mirror episode.

Prepare to be blown away.

We have to wonder if Charlie Brooker, creator of Black Mirror, is a Friends junkie, or if he and Ross are just on the same wavelength. OR are we all in a real-life Black Mirror episode right now, and this is a glitch in the programming?!

Who knows, but now we’re really wondering about what a Friends/Black Mirror crossover would look like…
